Week 10 (10/10-10/14)

ENGLISH

We will be continuing our unit on short stories. Students will discuss irony in the short stories “The Gift of the Magi” and “The Necklace.”  Students will also take a short vocabulary quiz on Wednesday.

The objectives for the week are as follows:

Monday

SWBAT use specific evidence to analyze Mme. Loisel’s unhappiness in “The Necklace.”

Tuesday

SWBAT identify and analyze the use of irony in “The Necklace.”

Wednesday

SWBAT compare and contrast theme, use of irony, and characterization in two short stories.

Thursday

SWBAT prepare a rough draft of an essay comparing two short stories.

Friday

SWBAT edit and revise their essays, which compare two short stories.

SOCIAL STUDIES

Students will be taking a unit test on Africa on Tuesday. Then, we will begin our new unit, in which we will discuss ancient Asian civilizations. This week, we will be discussing the Mongol and Ottoman empires.

The objectives for the week are as follows:

Monday

SWBAT compare and contrast trade in present-day and ancient Ghana.

Tuesday

SWBAT demonstrate their knowledge of ancient Africa, by taking a summative unit exam.

Wednesday

SWBAT assess their knowledge of ancient Asia, using a game of Kahoot.

Thursday

SWBAT describe the expansion of the ancient Mongol empire, and describe why their leaders were powerful.

Friday

SWBAT identify reasons why the Ottoman empire grew and took power.
